April 3rd meeting update

What a great meeting.... Parents please remind your Daisies to water their Daisies regularly. Once you have your flowers a couple of inches ( and the weather gets above the frost levels) help your Daisy transplant their flowers into a garden bed. The packaging popcorn could also be planted to help with the drainage....we are all about the GO GREEN message here. Thanks to the Raffensperger /Schill Family for donating the packing peanuts.

And let us offer our sincerest apologies if for the next week you hear nothing more than " Oh I wish I were a little Mosquito"  Its a great camp song and we are going to continue to teach the girls more camp favorites that we can sing around the camp fire. So just think only 2 more weeks before you hear a different song....  :)

Notices: 2 notes went home with your Daisy
1. Bake sale information: You must email me first if you and your Daisy are going to paricipate because Mrs. Levine will just think it is a general donation otherwise.  I will give her a list and she will mark off your name when you deliver your goodies.
2. Camp permission slips: ( On the reverse side of the Bake sale information (GO GREEN)
These forms are due to me by the 17th so that we can make all the traveling arrangements and finalize the numbers for meal planning and activities.  Please remember that we are unable to accomodate siblings at this time. There will be a zoo trip over the summer that all families members will be welcomed to attend.

Looking to the future:
Next meeing: Lt. Basak from the NRFD will come by to speak to the girls about the importance of making a Home Fire Safety plan and give us a date for our a visit to the NRFD and the HOME SAFETY MOBILE Display.  Permission slips will go out.

I know for many of our Daisy Families, this is their Easter Holiday time.  We wish you well and have a safe and Happy Easter.

Wendy Winkler

1ST GRADE DAISIES WHO ARE BRIDGING ONLY

I have only received permission for 3 girls to bridge.

If you have not done so please get that in ASAP.

Please respond to this email with a  YES WE ARE BRIDGING in the subject line so I can give Phyllis a heads up about how many girls to expect.  They are doing a Science experiment badge which are girls will earn as well. (part of the requirement to bridge)

Once I know how many girls are participating I can plan activities accordingly to make sure that our girls get the most out of this experience.  Please remember to also include a $8 to troop 41184 for expenses. If you are unable to pay the fee, please just submit the form.  We don’t want any girls to miss out on this experience.

I am really looking forward to participating in this process with our girls. Hope they all can participate.

Wendy

PS scroll down to receive the sign up form again if you have misplaced it.

Becoming a Brownie School year 2009-2010 Current 1 st Grade girls only. Kindergarten girls will remain a daisy 1 more year. I know you are saying…. “ What is she thinking we aren’ t even through with Daisies ” Well like all things in Scouting, we must plan ahead. Those girls who feel they would like to go further into Brownies next year may participate in a special Bridge badge. It actually is quite fun for the girls….. Here at Ames we will

 Attend a Brownie meeting and complete an activity with them

 Ask a brownie scout some of the things she does as a Brownie

 Complete a Brownie Try it ( Brownie Badge)

 “ Bridge ” our Daisies into Brownies at a very special ceremony during our Year end awards.

Can your daughter be a Brownie without Bridging? Absolutely, we do not want to turn away any girls but only those girls who complete the Bridging program will earn the badge and participate in the “ Bridging ” portion of the ceremony. Once we know how many girls are participating, we will coordinate with the Ames current Brownie Troop and we will set up a schedule of events for the girls. Those Daisies who become Brownies next year will be part of a second troop that we will form. Please print out The attached form, fill in and send along with $8 to Joan Kanatas for participation/supplies (Checks may be made payable to Troop #41184) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - I _______________________________give my daughter______________________________ permission to participate in the Bridging to Brownies Activities. ______________________________Parents signature

March 6th: Next meeting

Dear Parents,

A quick reminder that this Friday March 6 is our Daisy meeting and because of Spring Break ( I know can you believe it) Our next meeting is next week, March 13th.

Girls should be in Daisy uniform for the remainder of the meetings:

White shirt/, Daisy Tunic  (any bottoms may be worn.)

Tan pants complete a formal daisy attire and we only require them for the Daisy ceremony’s or fieldtrips*.  ( *Coming in April)

Any scrapbooking parents? Can you send your Daisy with one or two sheets of scrapbooking paper (preferable different patterns) on Friday in their backpack?  We are doing a special project that will continue to the march 13th meeting.

On a side note: Any parents willing to donate some time to the next two meetings, please contact Wendy

So far I have only 2 Dads for the campout.  Due to the facility being at Full capacity, we have 2 options , Tent and for those less adventurous we will find a near by motel. Dads will retire at lights out roughly 9-9:30?  and will return by 7:30 a.m.

I will let you know which motel we have found by the end of the month. We will get 1 room per 2 dads.

Join millions of people around the world and turn off your lights in a unified call for action to combat climate change on Saturday, March 28 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time.

Earth Hour ChicagoEarth Hour is a global effort to encourage every individual, business, and community to turn out the lights for one hour to show that by working together, everyone can make a difference in the fight against climate change.

In Chicago and the surrounding area, Earth Hour 2009 is presented by ComEd, and is a partnership of the World Wildlife Fund, ComEd, the City of Chicago, and Leo Burnett.

Last year, more than 2.7 million people in the region turned off their lights for Earth Hour 2008. ComEd reported electricity savings of 7 percent or 818-megawatt hours – the carbon emissions equivalent of:

  • 1.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide
  • 72,000 gallons of gasoline consumed
  • Taking more than 1 million cars off the road for one hour
  • Planting 158 acres of trees

ComEd’s support of Earth Hour contributes to the company’s robust portfolio of energy efficiency and environmental programs. Earth Hour is also a component of Exelon 2020, an aggressive effort by ComEd’s parent company, Exelon, to reduce, offset, or displace more than 15 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year by 2020.

While the core message of the 2009 campaign remains the same – to turn off the lights for one hour – long-term changes are needed. Learn simple tips for everyday energy savings.
